privacy policy

This is Women Into the Network’s privacy policy. It tells you who we are, how we collect information about you, whether and how we store that information, and what we use it for, with whom we intend to share your information, and whether it may be transferred outside the European Economic Area (‘EEA’).
Please read the policy carefully. If you do not agree with it, then please do not use our website.

1. Who we are

We are Women into the Network, part of Durham University.  Our address is Durham Business School, Durham University, Mill Hill Lane, Durham City, DH1 3LB.

Women Into the Network is a networking initiative based in the North East of England, which facilitates the development of women's businesses.   We mainly need personal information so that we can fulfil our aims of :

  • Promoting our members and their businesses or projects
  • Introducing new contacts, customers and suppliers
  • Segmenting members to ensure we provide targeted support

2. How we collect information

2.1. We may collect information about you from your completion of our on-line forms or from any email you send to us.

2.2. We will collect information about you if you register as a member of Women Into the Network at http://www.womenintothenetwork.co.uk

2.3. We keep a record of statistics regarding use of our website, but not in a format that identifies any individual.

2.4. We use cookies.

2.4.1. Cookies are small text files which are transferred from this website and stored on your computer's hard drive. They enable a website to 'remember' who you are.

2.4.2. Most browsers are automatically set to accept cookies but if you are using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, you should be able to configure your browser to restrict cookies or block all cookies if you wish. This may, however, affect your ability to log into and use certain areas or our site. Browser-specific instructions on how to restrict or block cookies may be found on the IAB’s website at http://www.allaboutcookies.org.uk.

2.4.3. We use session cookies (which are temporary cookies) to keep track of your session when you use our website. Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser.  We do not use persistent cookies which remain on your browser until you delete them. No cookies on our site are served or used by third parties. We do not use 'spyware', that is web bugs or hidden identifiers or other similar devices to gain access to information, store hidden information or to trace activities of users. 3. Storage of information

3.1. Your information will be stored on Enigma Interactive’s web server and we will keep our own backup copy. We may also store your information on paper at our offices.

3.2. We will keep your information secure by taking appropriate technical and organisational measures against its unauthorised or unlawful processing and against its accidental loss, destruction or damage.

3.3. You have a statutory right to see a copy of the information we hold about you on payment of a fee, which is currently £10. Requests must be made in writing to the Women Into the Network office at the address stated in point (1).

3.4. If you wish to be removed from our database, you can send an email to info@womenintothenetwork.co.uk with the word ‘unsubscribe’ in the subject line, or you can contact our head office on 0191 334 5502.

4. What we use your information for

4.1 We will use your information to provide you with any further details or information you request when you contact us.

4.2 If you register as a member of Women Into the Network, your contact details and business description declared on your registration form will be shared with other members via our website at www.womenintothenetwork.co.uk. You may login to the site to change this information at any time. 

4.3 All other data will be maintained by Women Into the Network in accordance with law, and used for the purposes of research, segmenting our membership and offering targeted support to members. 

5. With whom we may share your data

5.1. We will share your information with other members of Women Into the Network, as described above in paragraph 4.2 of this privacy policy.

5.2. We will give third party suppliers who supply services to us (for example, as part of hardware or software maintenance) or who process information on our behalf (such as a hosting company) incidental access to your information.

5.3. If you have agreed to act as a Women Into the Network role model, or have agreed to appear in an article featured on our website, we may wish to share your information with third parties, such as the media or support organisations.  This will only be done with your consent.

5.4. In order for Women Into the Network to claim funding for the project, we are obliged to provide funders with information on those who have benefited from our activities.

5.5. We will disclose your information to enforcement authorities if asked to do so, or to a third party in the context of actual or threatened legal proceedings.  Women Into the Network strictly respects the privacy of its users.

6. We will not transfer your information outside the EEA. The EEA comprises certain countries within Europe (including the EU) which have similar laws on data protection. Other countries outside the EEA may not give the same level of protection to your information.
